AccoladesProject goals were to create a unique brand identity for a fictional company and develop a cohesive identity system that works across a variety of applications. Assignment requirements included creating a brand logo, brand standards, a product poster, an event poster, website home page with two internal pages, Instagram posts, environmental applications, and any additional extras that would serve to enhance the overall identity of the brand. I chose to create a brand identity for a wine company: Santé Wines of France or simply Santé for short.Project Background Product / Service: Beverage Company, Wines of France Company Name: Santé (Cheers) Overview / Drivers Create a line of French wines catered to US audiences. The wines will provide an excellent learning opportunity for wine drinkers to begin gaining knowledge about the specifics of French wine (and the wine process in general) and give them a taste of French culture. This will be seen in the language used, the overall brand image, and the attitude of the wine packaging as well. Mission: The aim of the company is to not only create a product that can entice an audience through an artful label, but then begin to educate consumers on the different types of wine, what makes them unique, what region, what notes, what pairs well, and so on with the authentic French wine. The label is the stepping-stone into entering the larger world of French wine. A very important component that arose when developing the brand identity of Santé was how to keep the brand approachable yet educational for consumers that may be new to the world of wine. The acute accent mark used in the word Santé became a key feature element that acts as a container, an expressive visual symbol, and provides a double meaning in regard to language and semantics. ContainerThe Santé Accent has a variety of uses as a container for color and information. Shown on the product posters, the accent contains vintage botanical illustrations which allude to the flavor profiles of the product being showcased. The accent can also serve as an informational color key as seen on the French Wine Map poster indicating the various French wine regions. Expressive Visual SymbolThe dynamic diagonal movement of the accent mark draws the viewers’ eyes quickly and effectively when paired with the product or when used as an informational color key. The symbol works well at a variety of scales— from a large graphic mark to a small website favicon. LanguageOne of the most significant differences between English and French many language learners encounter first and foremost is pronunciation. This is especially true if you have ever tried to pronounce a specific type of wine that you are unfamiliar with. Each bottle of Santé wine includes a phonetic spelling in English to aid those unfamiliar with how to correctly pronounce the wine type. The brand tagline “it’s all in the accent” playfully encourages those to say the wine name with confidence. Each of the posts contain an educational component as well: French to English translations, wine serving tips, a quote, and food pairings. Environmental Applications The Santé environmental applications showcase a Wine Pop Up Event that can take place in a city center or downtown environment. This allows guests to be transported away from their day-to-day life by enjoying a glass of wine in front of a Parisian café vignette (complete with decorative awnings and photography of French café façades). The environmental application is completely portable and allows Santé to take their product on the road to different US cities. All environmental scenes are 3D modeled with Revit and rendered with Enscape. Guests can enjoy a glass of Santé wine while also learning about the various wine regions / where their wine is from by viewing the decorative and informative design while seated at their table. This design creates an educational and interactive experience, as well as a conversation starter for people learning about wine or getting to know each other at the Wine Pop Up Event. sketches and further refined by hand before moving into the computer for the final symbol development. From the beginning of this project I focused on creating rounded shapes, nested forms, and including both a mother and baby in combination. This visual language ensured that the final symbols would have a friendly / gentle feel, speak to the conservation efforts of Audubon Zoo, and would be suitable for children and families. Many of Audubon Zoo’s current signs use a mix of graphic styles and include realistic small-scale silhouettes of animals on a single-color field. This type of system makes it difficult for guests to determine information from a distance and navigate the zoo easily. The current branding for Audubon Zoo can also lean on the more mature aesthetic in both rendering style and color choice. The goal for the project was to create a new system of symbols that addresses wayfinding concerns and appeals to a younger audience of children and families.The newly designed symbols use 10 unique colors and are intended to be used as wayfinding accents distinctive to each animal zone within Audubon Zoo. This color organization method can help guests navigate and understand their current location more easily. The colors could be seen on powder-coated guardrails, accent paint on buildings, feature arches that mark entry into different zones, as well as directional signage. The color palette is playful in spirit to appeal to children, yet not so overly saturated that the colors might look out of place when surrounded by nature in the zoo setting.Another key feature of the new symbols is the incorporation of baby animals. The inclusion of a baby animal in each design speaks to the larger conservation effort of Audubon Zoo. Oftentimes many animals that can be seen in zoos are exclusively kept from going extinct through targeted conservation efforts and care from zoo facilities.Incorporating baby animals in each of the final symbols also has another benefit— creating a child friendly and educational design. Showing mother and baby promotes family connection and illustrates the differences between species. A children's activity book creates an interactive and educational activity for young children. Process2. All Icons and Alternates 3. Experiment with ColorProject goals were to create a unique set of 20 icons that represent the typical events in my daily life. The narrative order of my typical day starts at the upper left corner and reads from left to right and then goes down the sheet (the same way in which we read). I created all of the icons with an isometric grid, and I focused on developing a holistic system through considering black/white ratio and level of detail in each of the icons. Each of the icons were first sketched by hand and then refined and finalized in Illustrator. After completing the set in black and white only, I then challenged myself to experiment with color and explore how that could be integrated within the designs. I developed many different kinds of templates, assets, and documents for general branding purposes and for posts on social media. I also introduced a signature motif using color blocks at the top and bottom of documents that plays off of the slanted PDC logomark. This motif can be seen in many different brand applications and presentations. All Parish Design Co. logomarks are designed by Patrick Miller and serve as the basis of design for the collateral I created. PDC Letterheads Accent Letterhead Document works best in full color and full bleed. Great for use in creative endeavors and for gaining a viewer’s attention. The design works both in square format for posting on Instagram and in standard letter-size for print outs in the store. Option 1 plays more with contrast in value while Option 2 incorporates more color. This gives Patrick and Rachel the option to post twice on social media or to choose their favorite design option. I focused on taking graphic cues from the current brand system as well as referencing the iconic&nbsp;Massimo Vignelli American Airlines logo from the 1960s. My goals were to create a new mark that could feel both modern and have a heritage type quality. The identity system is formed through geometric shapes that offer opportunities for adaptable pattern configurations and color play. The words visually squash and stretch based on their movement across the screen, and I used a bright and playful color scheme to add personality. A trampoline concept served as the basis for the overall text movement and the carefree attitude. SOD Logo Intro Video Final 21 Second Video with Audio Audio Credit: Epidemic Sound Hip Hop Pro by Pro Reese Project goals were to create a logo animation where the School of Design (SOD) logo animates onto the screen, stays static on screen for a short period of time, and then animates off the screen as if it were a YouTube video intro. The logo itself could not be modified (beyond proportioned scaling and color changes) but the backgrounds can vary as necessary.
